Why read before you go?

You do not need to understand river science deeply before your first cleanup. But a few well-chosen articles will help you observe more, understand what you are seeing, and contribute more meaningfully from day one.

This reading path takes approximately 45–60 minutes and covers the minimum useful foundation for a first-time volunteer.

The final path will link to 4–5 articles from Pollution Library covering:

• What a river basin is and why it matters — from the Big Picture module of Why Rivers Are Polluted.
• The main visible sources of river pollution — from Main Sources; helps you identify what you see on the ground.
• What the basic water quality indicators mean — from How Pollution Is Measured; so test results and visual surveys make sense.
• Who is working on rivers in India — from Who Is Doing What; helps you understand the ecosystem you are joining.
