19-When Akbar Became Curious About the Ganga
Good morning friends. Today let me share a small and slightly amusing moment from history — one that involves Emperor Akbar and our holy river, the Ganga. It is recorded that during Akbar’s reign, water from the Ganga was regularly brought to his palace in Agra. Not casually, but carefully sealed and transported over long distances. Akbar believed that Ganga water did not spoil like ordinary water. In fact, he preferred drinking it and even called it special among all waters. One day, out of curiosity, he reportedly asked whether the river was truly unique or whether people simply believed it was. So water from different sources was stored in identical containers and kept aside for some time. When they were later opened, the difference was clear. Other water had gone stale. The Ganga water remained fresh. Akbar is said to have smiled at this discovery. Not dramatically, not ceremonially — just with quiet amusement. For a ruler who commanded armies and governed vast lands, it was a simple moment of curiosity and appreciation. History often remembers wars and power. But sometimes, it is these small, human moments — an emperor testing river water like a curious student — that make the past feel closer to us.
सुप्रभात दोस्तों। आज इतिहास से एक हल्की-सी, मुस्कान वाली घटना सुनते हैं — जिसमें सम्राट अकबर और गंगा दोनों शामिल हैं। कहा जाता है कि अकबर के शासनकाल में गंगा का जल विशेष रूप से आगरा मंगवाया जाता था। उसे सावधानी से बंद पात्रों में लाया जाता था, क्योंकि अकबर मानते थे कि गंगाजल अन्य जल की तरह खराब नहीं होता। वे इसे सामान्य जल से अलग और विशेष समझते थे। एक दिन उन्होंने जिज्ञासावश पूछा कि क्या सचमुच गंगा का जल अलग है, या लोग केवल ऐसा मानते हैं। तब अलग-अलग स्रोतों का जल समान पात्रों में रखकर कुछ समय के लिए छोड़ दिया गया। बाद में जब उन्हें खोला गया, तो बाकी जल बिगड़ चुका था, जबकि गंगाजल वैसा ही स्वच्छ रहा। कहते हैं अकबर यह देखकर हल्के से मुस्कुरा दिए। कोई बड़ी घोषणा नहीं, बस एक शांत संतोष। एक विशाल साम्राज्य का शासक भी कभी-कभी साधारण जिज्ञासा से सीख ले सकता है — यही इस घटना की सरल सुंदरता है। इतिहास में बड़े युद्ध दर्ज होते हैं, लेकिन ऐसे छोटे पल उसे मानवीय बना देते हैं।
