So the king decided to retreat into the forests of Sihawa in Bastar (in present-day Chhattisgarh) to spend his remaining days in peace. He traveled there with a group of brave Halba tribal warriors who served as his guides and protectors. Each day, the king went hunting with his trusty hounds. Among them was a beautiful white dog who was very loyal to him. The dense forest was full of secrets and shadows, but also hidden springs and life-giving waters. The Miraculous Copper-Colored Dog One day, as the king was tracking a deer with his dogs, a curious thing happened. His white dog suddenly leaped into a clear spring of water and splashed around! 😯 When the dog emerged, the king couldn't believe his eyes – the pure white fur of his dog had turned a shimmering copper-red color! 😲✨ The king watched in amazement. This was no ordinary spring. He realized this was a miracle. Feeling hopeful, the king stepped into the spring himself. The cool water washed over him, and to everyone’s astonishment, his leprosy was completely cured! 🙏🏼 It was as if the spring had magical healing powers. A New Beginning in Bastar Grateful for his miraculous cure, the king decided he could no longer leave these special forests or their people. He thanked the Halba tribesmen and honored the spot by building a small temple beside the spring. The Halba tribe, in turn, persuaded him to stay and rule over them. Soon, the king became the founder of a new kingdom. Over time, he and his descendants became the kings of Kanker, in the heart of Bastar. The Halba people remained loyal servants of this royal family for generations. In fact, during each new king’s coronation, a Halba called the Kapardar still plays a special ceremonial role – all to remember that extraordinary day in the forest. The Birth of the Mahanadi River But wait, there’s more! The legend adds an even grander twist. The spring in Sihawa where the king was healed is said to be the very source of the Mahanadi River. 🌊🌱 Locals say that from that little spring, clear mountain waters flowed out and carved a path through hills and forests. Those waters grew into the great river we know today as Mahanadi, which fittingly means “Great River.” Believe it or not, there’s truth to that claim. Geographers note that the Mahanadi indeed begins in the hills around Sihawa in Chhattisgarh. So, according to the legend, the same spring that turned a dog’s fur copper-red and cured a king’s disease also gave birth to one of India’s mightiest rivers! 😊 And that's the amazing Halba legend! नमस्ते दोस्तों! 🙂 क्या आपने कभी हल्बा जनजाति की एक दंतकथा सुनी है? आज मैं आपको सुनाता हूँ एक ऐसी अद्भुत कहानी जिसमें है एक राजा, एक चमत्कारी तांबे रंग का कुत्ता, और महानदी नदी की उत्पत्ति! जंगल में राजा की खोज बहुत समय पहले की बात है, ओडिशा के जगन्नाथ पुरी का एक राजा था। वह कोढ़ की बीमारी से बहुत परेशान था। गुरुजनों ने उसे ठीक नहीं किया, तो उसने बस्तर के सिहावा जंगल में आराम करने का निश्चय किया। वह अपने साथ हल्बा जनजाति के कुछ बहादुर साथी भी लेकर गया, जो जंगल में उसके रक्षक बन गए। हर दिन राजा अपने वफादार कुत्तों के साथ शिकार पर जाता था। उनमें एक बहुत प्यारा सफेद कुत्ता था, जो उससे बेहद वफादार था। जंगल में अँधेरा था और इधर-उधर छोटे-छोटे कुएँ और झरने भी छिपे हुए थे। चमत्कारी तांबे रंग का कुत्ता एक दिन जब राजा हिरण का पीछा कर रहा था, तो उसने देखा कि उसका सफेद कुत्ता अचानक पास के एक कुएँ में छलांग लगा गया! 😯 पानी में कुछ पल के लिए धँसकर, जब कुत्ता ऊपर आया तो राजा की आँखें फैल गईं – कुत्ते का सफेद फर अब तांबे-लाल हो गया था! 😲✨ राजा हैरान रह गया। यह कोई आम कुआँ नहीं लग रहा था। उसने भी तुरंत उस कुएँ में पांव डाल दिए। ठंडा पानी उसके शरीर को छूते ही, उसकी कोढ़ की बीमारी बिल्कुल गायब हो गई! 🙏🏼 ऐसा लगा जैसे यह कुआँ ही चमत्कार करे। राजा खुशियों से झूम उठा – उसने खुद पर काबू नहीं रख पाया। कहते हैं कि उसी बहादुर कुत्ते की छलांग ने कुएँ की शक्ति का रहस्य खोला। उस दिन के बाद से कुत्ते का रंग वही सुनहरा तांबे जैसा ही रह गया, और उसे सब 'राजा का हीरो' मानने लगे। बस्तर में नई शुरुआत अपने चमत्कारी ठीक होने के बाद राजा ने ठान लिया कि अब वह बस्तर नहीं छोड़ेगा। उसने हल्बा साथियों को धन्यवाद कहा और उसी चमत्कारी कुएँ के किनारे एक छोटा मंदिर बना दिया। हल्बा जनजाति के लोगों ने भी कहा कि वह यहीं रुककर राज करें। कुछ समय बाद वह राजा कंकर नाम की नई रियासत का जनक बन गया। बस्तर के सारे लोग उससे जुड़ गए और हल्बा फिर से उसके वफादार सेवक बन गए। यहाँ तक कि आज भी जब नया राजा राज्याभिषेक करता है, तो हल्बा जाति का एक 'कपर्दार' विशेष पूजा-अर्चना में मदद करता है – ताकि सभी को वह दिन याद रहे। महानदी नदी की उत्पत्ति लेकिन कहानी यहीं खत्म नहीं होती! 😮 यहाँ जुड़ती है एक और मजेदार बात। उसी चमत्कारी कुएँ से बहकर निकला पानी बाद में महानदी नदी बन गया! 🌊🌱 कहते हैं उस कुएँ से निकलने वाले पानी ने पहाड़ों और जंगलों में रास्ता बनाते हुए आगे बढ़ा और वही पानी आगे चलकर 'महानदी' नाम की बड़ी नदी बन गया। अफ़वाह ही नहीं, सच ये है कि महानदी नदी का उद्गम सिहावा पहाड़ों के पास माना जाता है। जैसे लगता है कि वही जादुई कुआँ नदी को जीवन दे रहा हो। 😊 और बस यहीं है हल्बा जनजाति की अद्भुत दंतकथा! अगली बार जब आप महानदी को बहती देखें, तो याद रखना उस तांबे रंग के कुत्ते और दयालु राजा की कहानी। छोटी-छोटी चमत्कार भी इतिहास बदल सकते हैं। उम्मीद है आपको यह कहानी पसंद आई होगी! 🏞️✨
